We are partnering with Something Wild to enrich the Something Wild Trail Running Festival with a special offer for non-runners: A guided walk along the beautiful half marathon course.
On Saturday, Sept 9th, the guided walk will start shortly after the half marathon trail race at 9.30am.
The route starts and ends at the festival site at Huccaby Farm, crossing the river at Dartmeet before climbing gradually to Sharp Tor and along Dr Blackalls Drive to New Bridge, from where you will enter Holne Woods. Next you will cross through Holne and return via Holne ridge to Coombstone Tor. You will still need your wits about you in the final furlong however, as another river crossing beckons, via the Huccaby stepping stones.
You can add one or two nights camping with your booking. Furthermore, you are welcome to buy additional tickets for the Speakers’ Evenings (Fri/Sat) and Forest School (Sat/Sun) as well as our great Something Wild T-Shirts 2017!
Adults pay only £10 if they book until Thursday, Sept 7th (£12 for bookings on Fri and Sat).
Children and youths under 18 go for free, but since it is not a walk in the park, we do not recommend it for under 15’s.
There are feed stations at mile 5.5 and 6.5. However, it is recommended to bring own food and drinks (plenty of water/hot flask, snacks & lunch) since the half marathon runners might eat everything up!
Secure baggage drop, parking, toilets & showers are provided at the festival site.
The walk is suitable for walkers with a good fitness level. You should be able to complete a full day hike (5-7 hours, depending on group pace) that includes some uphill climbs, river crossings, moorland terrain, tussocky grass and boggy areas.
Please come prepared with sturdy hiking boots, waterproof jacket and trousers, warm layers, and a walking pole if needed (it can be helpful for river crossings and bogs). Don’t rely too much on the weather forecast – at Dartmoor, weather can change quite quickly and unexpectedly.
