Walk & Navigation Practice Day - Intermediate Level

BOOK TICKETS

Would you like to walk on Dartmoor more often and need a confidence boost to explore new places? Have memories faded of how to use your map and compass and you'd like a refresher? Or to learn more advanced navigation techniques?

Join us and visit the Dartmoor that's off the beaten track, a day to help regain your confidence to visit places you've never been to before. Providing both a reminder of how to use your map and compass, and an opportunity to to discover other ways to feel your way through the landscape - natural navigation (feeling and seeing the landscape). Experience how to always know where you are and how to get to where you'd like to be, whatever the weather.

You'll be walking with others of similar ability and led by Verran Townsend, qualified walking guide and navigator who along with Emma, loves to encourage and enable others to experience the wildness and beauty of Dartmoor.

If you've never used a compass then this is not yet for you, please do join instead one of our Navigation Training workshops for Beginners/or Refresher.

LEVEL: MODERATE - The route is approximately 6 miles or 9.7km in length and hilly in places with 300m of ascent. The views are stunning and we will take you to some interesting as well as little visited locations along the way! (Route is dependent on weather conditions and group pace)

LOCATION: Car park below Bench Tor.
National Grid Reference: SX 68832 70877

What3Words App Reference: ///sculpting.issue.inert https://w3w.co/sculpting.issue.inert
Follow the road that runs from Ashburton to Venford Reservoir passing the 'River Dart Country Park'. Cross Holne Bridge and drive up the road in the direction of Holne. Drive past the turning for the village. As you approach Venford Reservoir, the car parking area is on your right before the dam wall.

(Please note the nearest public toilets are in the other car park on the north side of the reservoir.)

Driving directions/any final details will be emailed approximately a week before the walk; please remember to check your junk email folder.
Please car share where possible. Parking is limited on Dartmoor and sharing lessens our impact on the environment, thank you.
