Tor Royal Farm Walk & Ploughman’s Lunch (organised for Dartmoor Outdoors Festival)

Guided walk around Tor Royal, a Duchy Farm, to explore its fascinating history and archaeology, beautiful waterways and recent peat bog rewetting project, plus links to the founding of ‘Prince’s Town’, and lineage of designated rare breed Registered Dartmoor Ponies. Join us to learn how the farm is managed to balance livestock, biodiversity and responsible public access. Walk will be led by Dartmoor Guide Emma Cunis, followed by a delicious homemade Ploughman’s lunch inside the beautiful Georgian house where you can see the domed ceiling with lantern, and an unusual plaster frieze depicting the Princetown Tramway, plus ask questions of tenant farmer Justine Colton.


LEVEL: MODERATE - approximately 6.5km/4miles on uneven ground that will be rough, wet or rocky in places with stiles to cross.

Route is dependent on weather conditions and group pace.

WHAT TO WEAR/BRING: Sturdy walking boots; warm layers; sunscreen; waterproof jacket and trousers (whatever the forecast); walking poles if you have them; drink/flask and snack.

DOGS: Dogs are welcome if they are extremely well behaved around people and livestock, and/or on a short lead at all times.
