Navigation Skills for Beginners (or Refresher)

Learn map and compass skills in a hands-on and practical walking workshop. Build confidence to explore new places and walk off the beaten track - whatever the weather! We will also discover other ways to feel your way through the landscape e.g.: natural navigation.

'Brilliant day practicing navigation skills - map reading, taking bearings and pacing distances to hidden features, then picking the best routes across the open moor. The day was lead in a very friendly and welcoming way with lots of information shared and the opportunity to learn in a non-pressured environment.' Recent participant

LEVEL: MODERATE - approximately 4 miles with a relaxed pace and many stops to practice navigation techniques but you need to be happy spending approximately 3 hours in hilly moorland terrain (Route is dependent on weather conditions and group pace)

LOCATION: ‘Bel Tor Corner’ car park is between Poundsgate and Dartmeet.

National Grid Reference: SX694731 (car park is marked with a blue 'P' on the Dartmoor OS map)

What3Words App reference: ///young.overlaps.graver

Driving directions/any final details will be emailed approximately a week before the walk; please remember to check your junk email folder.
Please car share where possible. Parking is limited on Dartmoor and sharing lessens our impact on the environment, thank you.

Tickets

FEE: £45 per adult + £2 booking fee. Bring a friend/partner and get a 10% discount off your tickets! (automatically discounted at checkout)

Group size is limited so pre-booking is essential.

If there is significant interest in this session, the group will be split into two smaller groups each led by a qualified Mountain Leader or Hill and Moorland Leader. This is to ensure more personalised learning. The map and compass skills taught will be exactly the same, and you will have the choice of which group you join.

If this walk is fully booked, you can add yourselves to the waitlist by clicking the ‘Book Tickets’ button below. Or you could consider booking a Private Walk/Experience and sharing the cost with friends, colleagues, family. Click here for more information.

CANCELLATION: The event will go ahead come rain or shine. We do not offer refunds. If you cancel more than 4 weeks before the date of the walk or experience we will send you a credit note to use within 1 year minus a £5 admin fee and the £2 booking fee.  We do not transfer tickets so in this instance you can use your credit note to rebook with us.

If you cancel within 4 weeks of the date of a walk or experience we recommend that you try to resell/pass on your ticket yourself. If you resell/pass on please let us know who will be attending in your place.

We have seen a significant number of cancellations over the past few years, and as a very small organisation we have suffered and therefore as a consequence we now have a strict no refund policy - we do hope you understand and will continue to support us.

You will receive a confirmation email after booking from ‘noreply@bookinghound.com’ - please check your spam/junk folder and email info@dartmoorsdaughter.com if not received.
