Dartmoor's Daughter creates transformational experiences to improve health, wellbeing and performance. Kick-start your new year’s healthy intentions with a beautiful walk on a route that will include a little-visited wild swimming spot (you will be sworn to secrecy!).

Tickets

£12.50 per adult. Teens are also welcome (accompanied by an adult) if they have a good walking pace and are used to cold-water swimming. Group size is limited to pre-booking essential.

Further Information

Level: 3 out of 5 - Our intention is to set a reasonable pace but not to route march - we want to enjoy the views along the way! There are some paths but you must be comfortable walking approximately 4-5 miles across open moorland as well as walking through boggy patches, and crossing a stream/river. And, if you wish to take a dip, you must be able to swim and be physically able to sustain/look after yourself in and after cold river waters.

Dartmoor is a stunning natural environment and our intention will be to 'leave no trace'. Please come with a sense of appreciation and reverence so that we can collectively leave the approx 10m x 5m wild swimming spot without damage to the delicate ecosystems.

What to bring: Sturdy walking boots, plenty of warm layers, hat and gloves, waterproof jacket and trousers (no matter the weather forecast), wetsuit/swimsuit & towel if you intend to swim, walking poles to help cross a stream/river; as well as lunch, snacks, and hot flask/drinks.

Where to meet: Small car parking area OS Grid Reference SX6583 at the end of Fernworthy Reservoir.

Directions: Drive all the way into Fernworthy Forest, PAST the first/main carpark with toilets on the right. Keep following this tarmac road for approx another mile - it bends right (don't take the stony road that forks left). You will pass a large one storey building on the left with corrugated roof, then drive over a small stone bridge until you can't drive any further. There is a large locked wooden gate across the road with a signpost saying 'Kindly keep drive clear' and another sign for a Bridlepath. There is room to park several cars but car sharing is strongly recommended. Please contact us for a liftshare or to offer a lift. Please do not block the gates. TQ13 8EA is the nearest Postcode for sat nav but don't rely on it to get you to the exact spot!

Cancellation: This walk will go ahead come rain or shine (swimming in the rain can be enlivening!). Sorry no refunds if you are unable to attend.
