Walk with us through an ancient ceremonial landscape on Dartmoor. The eight stone circles on North East Dartmoor form an approximate arc. What is the purpose of the stone circles, and this particular formation in the landscape? Are the circles connected to each other? Was it deliberate architecture that five rivers rise in the centre of the arc as well as the Whitehorse Hill cist? Is there a full circle of stone circles across the north moor perhaps?
Taking an archaeological as well as phenomenological approach, we will journey together through this wild and beautiful landscape asking questions of the ancestors, stones, and land along the way.
ROUTE: Pace, weather, and group interest dependent, this will either be a circular 13 mile walk taking in Quintin Man's Cairn, Whitehorse Hill, Hangingstone Hill, and Wild Tor as well as the eight stone circles. Or, we will start at Fernworthy, walk through the circles, and then finish at Creaber sharing taxis back to our start point for a 10 miles walk (taxis will be organised and paid for by Dartmoor's Daughter).

Level: 4 out of 5. This walk requires a good level of fitness and will be approximately 10-13 miles (see Route above). We will be following a few grassy paths as well as making our way through long grass, up and down hills, and open rough terrain.
Where to meet: 8.45am for 9am start at the small car parking area OS Grid Reference SX6583 at the end of the reservoir in Fernworthy Forest. Directions - drive into Fernworthy Forest, PAST the first/main carpark with toilets on your right. Keep following this tarmac road for approx another mile - it bends right (don't take the stony road that forks left). You will pass a large one storey building on the left with corrugated roof, then drive over a small stone bridge until you can't drive any further. There is a large locked wooden gate across the road with a signpost saying 'Kindly keep drive clear' and another sign for a Bridlepath. There is parking for a few cars so car sharing is strongly recommended. Please do not block the gates. TQ13 8EA is the nearest Postcode for sat nav but don't rely on it to get you to the exact spot!

What to bring: Sturdy hiking boots; warm layers including hat and gloves; waterproof jacket and trousers (whatever the forecast); walking poles if needed; drinks/flask and lunch; and headtorch. You may also want your map and compass, dowsing rods if you have them, and questions/intuition to see if we can divine answers together!
