Special equipment needed Please bring sturdy walking boots, sunscreen, warm layers (including a hat and gloves), a waterproof jacket and trousers (whatever the forecast), plus drinks and a snack.

We recommend that each person has an individual map (OL28 Ordnance Survey map of Dartmoor) and compass*, so they can learn individually. We have a few spares we can loan if required.

Additional recommendations in relation to Covid-19: Hand sanitiser, a personal mask, a pair of disposable gloves each and first aid kit. From a safety perspective, these offer additional protection against Covid-19 if there were to be an accident and first aid is required by us or the rescue teams.

*For advice on compasses, Silva is recommended and a good source is Dartmoor National Park Visitors Centres or dash4it.co.uk. Any of the following would be fine: Silva Starter 8; Silva Field; Silva Ranger; Silva Expedition 4.

Dogs: We find groups struggle with handling a dog as well as concentrating on a map and compass, so we advise you not to bring them. However, if you are, please let us know at the point of booking.

Dartmoor's Daughter offers a range of locations to carry out this activity - please specify when booking. Locations include Poundsgate, Belstone & Postbridge.
