You will already have a basic level of knowledge and be interested to delve deeper with Dartmoor's Daughter and Dr Christian Taylor, Mycologist.
This Intermediate level day will comprise of a morning Fungal Foray in a Dartmoor woodland. And be followed by examining mycelia under the microscope; learning about hyphal structures and behaviours; as well as cultivation techniques used both in the laboratory as well as cultivation techniques for culinary purposes.
There will be slides shown from a laptop and data projector as well as some microscope work and petri dish plating and preparing cultivation media for mycelia.
LEVEL: Intermediate. The walk will be at a gentle pace with plenty of stops for approximately 2 miles. We will mostly be on woodland paths but there are some slopes to walk up and down.
WHAT TO WEAR/BRING: Plenty of warm layers (we will be stopping a lot), sturdy walking shoes or wellies, waterproof jacket and trousers (Dartmoor weather is unpredictable), hat, gloves, as well as picnic lunch and drink/hot flask.
